CHERIE LOTT

misc-cherie-lott.jpgI was born and raised in Caldwell Parish, along with my siblings Brian K. Thomas, Patty Stapleton, and Tisha Etheridge. We have wonderful parents, Jeff and Marie Thomas. My grandparents are the late Delmar and Frances Thomas of Grayson; the late Laney Busby of Clarks; and the late Alma Ainsworth Vestal of Grayson. On August 5, 2016, I married my high school crush, Kurt Lott.

I started work at the Clerk of Court's office as a JTPA worker in June of 1990. And continued to work part-time until I became a full time employee. I am now a Certified Clerk of Court with a paralegal degree. As part of my paralegal degree, I obtained a specialty in real estate law. Through the years of working at the Clerk's Office, I have learned how to work in all of the departments. I can work in the civil/probate/adoption department, land records, criminal, non-support, and juvenile departments. I also issue marriage licenses, birth certificates, do monthly reports, and bookkeeping. As clerk, I oversee the elections in Caldwell Parish and I am a member of the jury commission. I am an Ex-Officio Notary Public.

Mr. Eugene Dunn, the former Clerk of Court, gave me the authority when I was a deputy clerk to give oaths of office. I was blessed to give Judge Ashley Paul Thomas, my cousin, his oath.

Through the years, I have also learned that I love my job and working in the public.

I graduated from Caldwell Parish High School in 1991. In November of that year, I married Timmy L. Cox, Sr. After 21 years of marriage, he passed away on April 5, 2013. We had one son together, Timmy L. Cox, Jr. I thought losing a husband and becoming a widow and single parent was hard. The hardest thing was on February 13, 2015, my son, Timmy Lynn Cox, Jr. passed away also. I thank God for strength and courage to face each day. I would also like to thank everyone for their compassion, love and prayers through this time. Timmy Lynn Cox, Jr. was an organ donor which helped save lives. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have contact with his pancreas recipient and met his heart recipient.

I attend Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Grayson, Louisiana. My pastor and wife are Rev. Sherman Jones and Sis. Susie Jones. I am blessed to have such a wonderful church family.

I am blessed to have been able to meet and help so many people here in our parish. I have learned that in order to lead, you must first serve. I am proud to have the honor of serving this community. Thank you for electing me as YOUR Clerk of Court!
